Nothing much happened during the graduation trip except for a little incident on the plane. I will come to that later on. Most of the time were spent on sight seeing and lots of photo taking (of mummy!). It’s good that I’ve been to Sydney before and that makes it easier for me to bring mummy and myself around. Brisbane, the place where I spent my last two years in is in fact a boring quiet little town. Basically we just do some light shopping, a little tour around school and of course visited the casino. It’s really good that we managed to get a hotel just within walking distance from the gambling den casino.
Sydney was so much more fun. The shopping hours are far more extended and there are so many things to buy. We spent the first few days busy sightseeing which leave us no room for shopping at all. The hotel in sydney was very much more expensive but it was totally worth it. We got a room with a balcony, a fully equipped kitchen and living room. It really feels nice being able to drink my pot of hot chamomile, listen to the hifi and observe the busy life of Sydney. The view was also fantastic from our room. It’s fun to see little men in black rushing to work every morning. They remind me of penguins! hehe.. I urged everyone who’s not on a tight budget to stay in this hotel when you visit Sydney.
And yea, the plane incident. I got into an arguement onboard the SIA plane while we were travelling towards Singapore from Sydney. This old man (sitting in front of me) who is heading to DEHLI via Singapore fully reclined his seat even before the plane took off. OK, I respect the fact that every air passenger has the right to do that. People who travelled frequently will know that the economy class is extremely cramped. My mum who is sitting in the next to me tried to get out and go to the toilet. Obviously the space for her get from ther seat to the aisle is very limited, consider the fact that my mum is a very slim women. That man actually turned and tell us in a hostile manner that “This is not a football field, stop kicking it”. I was SO angry when I hear that. I immediately shoot back with “Sir, this is an economy class seat and we are already trying our best to get out with you fully reclined your seat. If you want more comfort, maybe you can get the business class ticket.” I wanted to say more but I really can’t be bothered. I don’t want to be seen bullying and old man. Luckily we were on an SIA plane (own people tend to be more understanding and will help mah!) and I promptly get the air stewardess to move us to the back of the 747 where there’s so much more space. Luckily we got the front row of the last cabin and were really glad that we get to stretch out legs throughout the 8 hours flight. Argh I hate people like him.
Ok, I will think of more to write when I feel like it.
One more point off the ‘To-do’ list. Found a job and it’s really great that the starting date is 21st August. Don’t ask me why this funny date to start, the person to decide is not me. Anyway, this arrangement is good since darlin is planning a trip with his family and now I can join them.
What I realise from job searching is that having some experiences prior to taking any further studies does help. No really in the sense that you will get a higher pay but it actually gave you a higher chance to get a job interview and also more things to talk about during the interview. I would say that the pay for my job is close to the current market rate. I love the environment! The building is so nice! Even the lobby looks grand! Anyway, as I fresh grad, I can’t be too choosy, can I? I should be gladful that I can land myself in a UK MNC within a month of my graduation. I’ve learnt to be thankful.
Been back for nearly two weeks and I haven’t found the time to update my blog! Let’s just say I’ve been very lazy busy! Anyway, let me summerise what have I done..hmm..
- Genting trip with the boys
- Lost count of how many resume I’ve sent in since sending online is so easy!
- Went for a couple of interviews (I shall write about this later)
- Still unable to finish packing my stuff from Brissy (136kg worth of stuff)
- Checked result and done reasonably well, thankfully
- Booked the accomodation and air tickets for the graduation trip
Time seems to fly whenever I am back in Singapore. Anyway, since this time I am back for good, I better get my bum down to find some serious work to do.
Ok, I shall talk about the interview.
First up, I went for an interview with this XX recruitment agency in Ngee Ann city. Initially, I’ve applied for another position via jobsdb with them but they offered me an internal position as a recruitment consultant instead. ok nvm I thought, I proceed on. The first round with the managers were ok..then come another round with the director of sales…intimidating looking lady who don’t seem interested to talk nor appear approachable. Neverthless, it goes quite alright but I was told that they could only offer me a temp position at the moment because some of the personality tests that I’ve done earlier on had indicate that I might not be suitable for the job. Duhz?! Why don’t you send me the test earlier on and assess my suitability before asking me to go down?? The temp position is a joke, or so I thought. They wanted to put me on a probation first, and my basic will be $1000 per month. They will monitor my performance and decide if I am suitable after a period they deem fit. Crazy! I told them I am not interested and they too say that they won’t be able to hire me since I can only start in August. Fine, I thought. That very afternoon when I reached home, I received a call from their HR asking me to go down and have an interview session with the CEO. Huh? Are you confused? I am too. Anyway, I went down to that interview since they asked me to disregard the earlier offer and promise me something better.
Ok..interview with the CEO. Hey Mr. CEO of-one-of-the-largest-recruitment-agencies-in-Singapore that you poeple claimed, please ask me some intelligent questions can?
First, don’t ask me irrelavant questions like how long I know my boyfriend, which temple I went to and am I a vegetarian!
Secondly, don’t ask me to stop repeating my points. I will definately not repeat my points if you would stop asking me the same type of questions again and again and again.
Thirdly, at the end of the interview, you asked me to ask you any questions or clear any doubts that I might have. I asked you what do you think made a good consultant. If you don’t wish to answer or do not have the slightest idea, tell me ok? Don’t throw the question back at me. Ok next question, I asked what are the criteria that are used to judge a consultant’s performance. Tell me something constructive. Don’t tell me that it is up to yourself to know and you do not need to tell me’. Stop being so smug can, Mr. CEO?? SMS-ing while you are interviewing someone is too rude. No apologies made it worst. Be thankful that I am interested in knowing more about your company ok? I am sure you started out in an entry position too. Stop asking me to ask you questions when you are not answering them. Pissed me off.
Fourthly, why does your agency need me to fill in so many forms again and again when I’ve already sent in my resume?
Finally, I had such a bad impression of your company after that interview. Mr CEO, your manager is a better interviewer than yourself and your salary scheme is a joke. Stop being so sales oriented and bombard me with the sales quota, profits etc. The least you should know is to build up relationships.
Mr CEO, I know you are expanding rapidly but gosh, you should taped your interview sessions sometimes. Appearing smug doesn’t make you smarter or more respectable. Be kinder to your interviewees. They might be your clients somedays.
And thank you very much, I do not need a $1000 a month job.
